Windows 7 is now open for preorder.
According to the Times, it will retail for "about £49.99" for the basic Home version... But not on Amazon
Amazon is retailing it for £74.99, and claiming that this is a half price!
Surely the Times isn't that bad at estimates?
Or are Amazon profiteering?
In any case, let's hope it's significantly better than Vista, and that it is compatible with XP...
I'm hoping that the new version won't use half of your RAM and move things around for no obvious reason.
The release of Vista very much reminds me of the terrible Millenium Edition - An OS rushed out with bugs and technical problems that was very quickly superseded by another (in the case of ME, the now incumbent XP).
Whatever the case, it looks like the next off-the-shelf computers we buy will be running Windows 7, not Vista (and good riddance).
Unless Chrome is incredibly, improbably and miraculously good...
